Late Season

Late season. Long wind and single to early teen digits weather. It makes the birds sit tight. This is where good bird dogs are made and finger-tips are numb until noon.

I dont know where Darlin and I stand in this whole formula except we put up with these conditions.

Late season. Im thinking about the 1.5 month left to shoot roosters, and wanting to FULLY stock my freezer with them. Come spring time I want to have plenty to grill and smoke and remember the good times in this cold weather and high, high wind.

Late season. This rooster sat sooo tight. Darlin pointed him proper. Dead locked. The wind hurt. I kicked and scratched all around her mark. Darlin remained steady. To my left, and slightly behind my feet this rooster started his flee, flapping under the thick, THICK prarie grass.

I stood shocked and surprised as to what this was.

Finally this rooster gained about 6 feet of air into his flight when I hit him straight on. He dropped 15 yards ahead of me. My dog marked him and stood waiting, (she is still a pup and has`nt quite figured out the whole retrieve to hand bit yet).

The shot felt good. The wind was cold. I drove quite a bit beyond where I usually hunt to this very nice Pheasants Forever field on a week day. It was overcast.

Marinated Wild Pheasant:

1 whole Pheasant de-boned
1 cup Braggs liquid amino acid (or soy sauce)
1/4 cup minced fresh ginger
1/4 cup minced fresh garlic
1 tablespoon fresh parsley or even better cilantro
lots salt
lots pepper

-put all of the above in a plastic bag and let marinate for at least half a day.

heat oven to 400 degrees f.

heat pan on high for 10 minutes or until its questionably hot.

drop marinated Pheasant parts into pan. Brown. Put into oven.

When cooked through and tender its done.

EAT!
