Waiting for a storm

In the next 48 hours a large storm will hit here.  I plan to go out in the morning, hopefully before it all happens.  We are excited.   I have been the most successful getting into the field shortly before a storm hits.  There is something in the air then.  The animals sense it.  The sky is overcast.   Its my favorite time.

Darlin` is bouncing off of the walls.  Its been a couple of days since we have gone out on a hunt and it shows with her.  "Get down", and "NO", and "stop it" have been said repeatedly in the last few days.  Its time.  She`s actually maniacally rolling on the carpeted floor as I type this.  What goes on up there in her head?

With a belly full of that rooster stew I described in my last post, I screwed in the "full" choke into the 20 gauge.  I have been shooting my Dad`s old 870 12 gauge lately, but felt that its time to bring the 20 back for this round.  I also filled the vest up with some Federal Prarie Storm 3" mag 4 shot.  I also brewed up some tea so it`ll be ready in the morning when we head out, ill need it.  Its late season now for sure.

I feel fortunate that I live in a place where this sort of activity is not too hard to reach. The places I am hunting are at the VERY farthest 20 miles away, and thats at a distance of me being very bored of the several spots I frequent around here.  Most of my usual spots are 2-5 miles from my front door.  Im fortunate that there are options.

Tomorrow I plan on hitting a GIGANTIC CRP field I have named "Rooster Ridge".  Its a bit of a walk over a bluff into the "sweet spots", but the sweat is totally worth it.  Its the field I posted about before in the middle of the Winnebago Indian Reservation, respectively.   Im thinking the cattail slough, that separates the bean field from the CRP, will be where they are.  I`ve got to get there early though.

The next 4 days will wield Xmas eve, Xmas day and the aftermath of this great holiday.  I plan on spending most of them with my beautiful and talented wife, family, and hunting the shit out of these hills.  I hope you all have a good one.

Good hunting and the best of memories,

  AP

P.S.  Looking at getting another dog.  Anyone out there have anything to say about Labs?
